Three Major Functions of Transformer Oil

1. Insulation: transformer oil has much higher insulation strength than air. The insulating material is immersed in oil, which not only improves the insulation strength, but also protects it from moisture erosion.

2. Heat dissipation: the specific heat of transformer oil is large, and it is commonly used as coolant. The heat generated during the operation of the transformer makes the oil close to the iron core and the winding heated face swell and rise, through the upper and lower convection of the oil, the heat is scattered through the radiator to ensure the normal operation of the transformer.

3. Arc extinction effect: in the oil circuit breaker and transformer on the load voltage switch, contact switch will produce arc. Because the transformer oil has good thermal conductivity, and can touch a large amount of gas under the high temperature of the arc, resulting in greater pressure, thus improving the arc extinguishing performance of the medium, so that the arc is quickly extinguished.
