Eddy current loss is the energy loss caused by induced current in the conductor of transformer when the conductor moves in a non-uniform magnetic field or is in a magnetic field that changes with time. It is called eddy current loss.

The eddy current loss is related to the changing mode of magnetic field, the movement of conductor, the geometry of conductor, the permeability and conductivity of conductor and other factors.

There are many factors affecting the eddy current in a wire, including the maximum magnetic flux leakage density, wire thickness, current density, etc. The thicker the wire, the larger the eddy current. The insulation damage of transposed wire and composite wire is equivalent to increasing the thickness of wire, so it will lead to the increase of eddy current.

When the transformer is working, the magnetic leakage causes eddy current loss in the wire, which can be divided into two kinds: longitudinal eddy current loss and amplitude eddy current loss. The longitudinal eddy current loss is proportional to the square of the operating frequency, while the amplitude eddy current loss is independent of the operating frequency.
